Tooth Extractions
Procedure Description
Tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth that cannot be saved or is causing problems. the dentist and his associate dentists perform both simple extractions (teeth visible above the gumline) and surgical extractions (impacted or broken teeth). Using local anesthesia to ensure comfort, we carefully remove the tooth, clean the socket, and provide detailed aftercare instructions. When appropriate, we can discuss tooth replacement options to maintain your oral health and function.
Indications
Tooth extraction may be necessary in several situations:
When to Consider Tooth Extractions
Severe Tooth Decay
Extensive cavities that have destroyed too much tooth structure to be saved with fillings or crowns.
Advanced Gum Disease
Periodontitis that has destroyed supporting bone to the point where teeth are loose and non-restorable.
Dental Infection or Abscess
Infection that cannot be resolved with root canal treatment or when root canal is not feasible.
Crowding or Orthodontics
Strategic removal to create space for proper teeth alignment during orthodontic treatment.
Impacted Wisdom Teeth
Third molars that cannot erupt properly and are causing pain, infection, or damage to adjacent teeth.
Fractured Teeth
Teeth broken below the gumline or with fractures extending into the root that cannot be repaired.
Note: Our primary goal is always to save your natural teeth whenever possible. Extraction is recommended only when other treatments aren't viable or would provide poor long-term prognosis.
Benefits
Why Choose Tooth Extractions?
Eliminates Pain and Infection
Removes the source of dental pain, swelling, and infection that antibiotics alone cannot resolve.
Prevents Spread of Infection
Stops infection from spreading to adjacent teeth, jaw, or other parts of the body.
Protects Adjacent Teeth
Removes problematic teeth before they damage neighboring healthy teeth.
Improves Oral Health
Removing severely diseased teeth improves overall oral hygiene and health.
Enables Other Treatments
Clears the way for orthodontics, dentures, implants, or other restorative procedures.
Alternatives
Root Canal Treatment
Can save infected teeth if enough structure remains and prognosis is good
Dental Crowns
May restore broken teeth if fracture doesn't extend below the gumline
Periodontal Treatment
Can save teeth with moderate gum disease if bone support is adequate
Monitoring
Watchful waiting for asymptomatic wisdom teeth that aren't causing problems
